Mystery item 1

I acquired this item in south central Virginia a few years back. I thought it was a stone axe head but it seems the third groove on the back end is unusual to say the least. It seems a bit light in weight and the surface can be dug into with a fingernail here and there like poorly fired pottery but it could be just the weathering of the rock from being buried some thousands of years. The shape only makes sense as an axe to me but if you have any ideas please share them via email to david@meherrinenterprises.com and I will add it to a page of mystery items and marks identified with a credit to you if you want.
